The targets of the texts Holzer wrote between the late 1970s and 2001 — variously excerpted and re-sequenced for the new sign — range broadly. In the newer, non-electronic work in this exhibition, she keeps a viselike grip on threats to democracy. Walmart said Thursday that sales at stores open at least a year increased 3.8% during its latest quarter from the same time last year. Blum turned to programs mostly in states where abortion access — and, by extension, abortion training — is likely to remain protected, like California, Colorado, and New Mexico. The AAMC analysis found the number of applicants to OB-GYN residency programs in abortion ban states dropped by 6.7%, compared with a 0.4% increase in states where abortion remains legal. CNN —Microsoft has asked at least 100 of its employees in China to consider moving to other countries, according to Chinese state media reports. Microsoft employees, mostly involved with cloud computing, were recently offered the opportunity to work in the United States, Australia or Ireland, among other countries, state-run outlet The Paper said in a report Wednesday, citing an unnamed source. The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that Microsoft asked as many as 800 employees — mostly engineers with Chinese nationality working on cloud computing and AI — to consider relocating. In a statement reported by Reuters, Microsoft (MSFT) said providing internal opportunities for some employees was part of its regular business and the company remained committed to China. In recent months, the United States has also enlisted its allies in Europe and Asia in restricting sales of advanced chipmaking equipment to China.

Just because Americans say they plan to shift to part-time work or retire early, it doesn’t mean that they’ll be able to.

The Biden administration will also issue a policy alert to private companies, including airlines, of concerns about irregular immigration patterns and potential human rights abuses stemming from those practices. There is no way to enforce the policy against companies that ignore those abuses. The announcement reflected a growing concern among President Biden and his advisers that a surge of undocumented immigrants into the United States is a growing threat to his re-election campaign. It also showed that the administration has limited options to stem the flow of immigration from troubled countries whose citizens are searching for a better life in the United States.

The much larger ships navigating U.S. ports have raised the risk of deadly crashes, requiring a fresh look at bridges and other key infrastructure that may need enhanced protections, a U.S. Coast Guard official said on Wednesday. “It is time to more broadly understand these risks,” Mr. Gautier told the House transportation and infrastructure committee, which is examining the federal response to the crash. He said the Coast Guard would be starting a nationwide review to examine vulnerabilities and propose plans to reduce the risk of disastrous accidents. Jennifer Homendy, the chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, said during the hearing that states and other bridge operators should be evaluating the types of vessels traveling through their waterways, especially near older bridges. While her agency expects to take about 18 months to produce a final report on the Baltimore disaster, she said officials might issue urgent safety recommendations even sooner.
